Alvis “Susie” Hawkins Garver, age 75, of Taneytown, Maryland formerly of Westminster, died on Friday, April 7, 2017 at the Carroll Hospital Center.

Born January 25, 1942 in Sykesville, Maryland she was the daughter of the late Jack Hardy Hawkins and Hillis Alvis (Caldwell) Hawkins.  She is survived by her companion, Paul G. Garver.

Susie was in the first graduating Class of 1960 of Francis Scott Key High School in Union Bridge.  She worked for Augusta Bank and later retired from the Carroll County Board of Education as a substitute teacher for many years.  She was a rabbit judge with the 4-H thru out the state of Maryland.  She loved flowers, was an Orioles and Ravens fan, and an avid reader, especially of the Bible.  The joy of her life was caring and spending time with her twin daughters.

Surviving are twin daughters, Susanne Joy Whitehurst of Ellicott City and Stacie Lee Whitehurst of Columbia; brother, T. Earl Hawkins and wife Mary of Westminster; sisters, Jewell Geouge and husband Doug of Westminster, Linda Lantz of Westminster, and Marcella Hansen and husband Jim of Selbyville, DE; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by siblings, Peggy Staub, Grace Glaser, Wanda Derr, and Joel Hawkins.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, April 13, 2017 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of a funeral service at 1:00 p.m. at the MYERS-DURBORAW FUNERAL HOME, 91 Willis St., Westminster with Rev. Martha W. Clementson officiating.  Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Gardens in Finksburg.
