Annabelle Madry Armacost

September 6, 1921 ~ May 6, 2017 (age 95) 95 Years Old


           Annabelle Madry Armacost, 95, went to join her husband Edwin and son Edwin II in Heaven on Saturday, May 6, 2017.

            Born on September 6, 1921 in Enfield, North Carolina she was the daughter of the late John Herbert and Susan Nancy Ann (Barfield) Madry.  She was predeceased by her husband of 68 years, Edwin R. Armacost in 2013.

            Anne lived a blessed and remarkably long and full life.  She graduated from Enfield High School, and worked in her uncle’s variety store before meeting the love of her life Eddie, when his Army convoy stopped in Enfield on maneuvers.  Anne and Eddie were married on September 9, 1944 at Fort Benning, Georgia, where they lived until Eddie was discharged and they moved with their first child Nanci to the Armacost family home in Finksburg, Maryland in 1946.  Anne was involved in Eastern Star and D.A.R. of Westminster, Roaring Run Lionesses, Westminster Homemakers, Christian Women’s Club, and all facets of her church, Mount Zion United Methodist in Finksburg.  She and her husband were instrumental in initiating the semi-annual Pancake Breakfast as well as having Bible study, teaching Sunday school, and helping start the community Christmas party.  Anne had been a Brownie Girl Scout leader, Den mother for Cub Scouts, room mother at Sandymount School, PTA Vice President, and chauffeur for their six children.  Her passions were cooking, sewing, the Baltimore Orioles, her family and her faith.  She was well known for her amazing Christmas cookies, which she and Ed started baking six weeks before Christmas and gave as presents to many; as well as her famous Christmas card newsletters sent to over 200 friends and family.  Anne and Eddie traveled the World; from a 6 week RV trip of the USA, Mexico and Canada to traveling to many European countries, New Zealand, and Australia.

            Surviving her are children, Nanci Armacost Crock and friend Lee Spencer, of Finksburg; Mary Anne Armacost Conover and friend Habern Freeman, of Port Deposit; Daniel Armacost and wife Mary, of Finksburg; Jason Armacost and fiancée Patricia MacArthur, of Finksburg; and Daphne Armacost Dukehart and husband Kevin, of Westminster; grandchildren, Adam Crock and wife Amanda, Tyler Crock, Meredith Borris and husband Mike, Christian Neonakis, Emily and Nathan Armacost, Sean Dukehart and wife Jessica, Sybil Alfano and husband Mike, Laurel Nalepa and husband Ryan, Logan Dukehart and wife Jess; great-grandchildren, Nora Crock, Olivia Asbury, Alexa Reed, Aria Borris, Adelaide and Madeleine Dukehart, Shane Alfano, Everett and Shepard Nalepa, Colby and Jenna Chambers; and numerous nieces and nephews.

            She was predeceased by a son, Edwin R. Armacost, II and by her two brothers and two sisters and was the last surviving generational member of both the Armacost and Madry families. 

            The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Wednesday, May 10, 2017 at the MYERS-DURBORAW FUNERAL HOME, 91 Willis St., Westminster.  Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday at Mount Zion United Methodist Church, 3006 Old Westminster Pike, Finksburg with the Rev. Dr. Wm. Louis Piel officiating.  Immediately following the service will be interment in Mount Zion Cemetery and a luncheon at the church.
