Captain David Allen Hargett, Medical Service Corps, United States Navy, Retired, died Tuesday, September 20, 2016 at Walter Reed Medical Center in Bethesda, MD.  Born August 16, 1941 in Beaver Falls, PA, he was the son of the late George and Gertrude (Steiner) Hargett.  He was the devoted husband of Mary Elizabeth (Pelaia) Hargett, to whom he was married for 53 years.

Dave was a proud 38-year veteran of the United States Navy, Medical Services Corps, and served during the Vietnam War.  He was a former member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Gaithersburg, MD and since 2007 was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Emmitsburg, MD.  He enjoyed playing golf, gardening, and traveling, especially to Long Boat Key, FL.  Dave was an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Naval Academy Midshipmen.  He loved spending time with family and friends.

Surviving in addition to his wife are daughter, Beth Marie Davies of Frederick, MD; son, David Marshall Hargett of McDonald, OH; sister, Lorraine Patterson and husband Donald, of Beaver Falls, PA; brother, Marshall Hargett and wife Mary of Beaver Falls, PA; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Joanne Mentz and husband Robert of Beaver Falls, PA, Joseph Pelaia and wife Yvonne of Gaithersburg, MD, and Linda Kay Collins and husband Steve of Salt Lake City, UT; granddaughters, Danielle Marie Riley of Hamden, CT, and Emilia Rose Grant of Frederick, MD; and many nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by daughter-in-law, Susan Hargett.    

The family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday, September 25th at Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 210 W. Main St., Emmitsburg, MD with a prayer service included at 7:15 p.m.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, September 26, 2016 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 47 DePaul St., Emmitsburg, MD, with the Rev. Charles F. Krieg, C.M. as celebrant.  Burial at Arlington National Cemetery will be on Thursday, March 2, 2017.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial donations be made to The Fisher House Foundation, who provide no-cost comfort homes near hospitals for military families during treatments at  www.fisherhouse.org  or to The American Lung Association to find a cure for lung cancer at www.lung.org.
