Carroll Eugene “Gene” Newcomer, Sr., 87, of Emmitsburg, died on Saturday, June 25, 2016 at his home surrounded by family.

          Born June 4, 1929 in Carroll County, Maryland, he was the son of the late Carroll F. and Dorothy I. (Shorb) Newcomer. 

          Gene enjoyed traveling, time at the beach, reminiscing and telling stories, and spending time with family and friends.  He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.  He was an honorary member of the Vigilant Hose Co., and an avid Redskins and Nationals fan.

          Surviving him are his long-time companion of 22 years, Dorothy “Dottie” Davis of Emmitsburg; son, Carroll “Skip” Newcomer, Jr. and wife Mimi of Petaluma, CA; daughter, Cynthia “Cindy” Miller and husband Mark of San Diego, CA; grandchildren, Jennifer Miller Fint and husband Thomas of San Diego, CA, and Adam Miller of San Diego, CA; extended family, the Davis family; close friends, Paul Harner and Austin Umbel. 

          He was predeceased by his wife of 38 years, Janet (Adams) Newcomer in 1991.

          At Gene's request, there will be no visitation or services.

          In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to either the Vigilant Hose Co., P.O. Box 171, Emmitsburg, MD 21727 or to Hospice of Frederick County, P.O. Box 1799, Frederick, MD, 21702.  Arrangements have been entrusted to MYERS-DURBORAW FUNERAL HOME in Emmitsburg.
