Edward Thomas Haines, 91, of Westminster, MD, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 15, 2017 at Carroll Hospice Dove House in Westminster.  Born September 18, 1925 in Westminster, he was the son of the late Thornton and Violet (Gist) Haines.  He was the husband of the late Alice (Logue) Haines, to whom he was married for 62 years.

Ed was a carpenter by trade and worked with several different area companies over the years.  He was a member of the Church of the Open Door in Westminster.  He was a veteran of the United States Merchant Marines and later, the United States Army, serving during the Korean War.  He was a proud member of the National Rifle Association.  He was also an avid fan of the Baltimore Ravens and the Baltimore Orioles. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and listening to bluegrass and gospel music.

Ed was known for his friendliness and sense of humor.  He played the mandolin for anyone who would listen and enjoyed attending monthly jam sessions at his nephew’s church in Fairfield, PA.  He loved spreading the gospel in song at various churches and gatherings as a member of “The Haines Family” gospel group, and would love to tell how the Lord had saved him from a drunkard’s life.

Surviving are daughter, Connie Reid and husband Scherl of Westminster; sons, Ronald Haines and wife Diana of Westminster, and Donald Haines and wife Amy of Chesterton, IN; brother, Robert Haines and wife Carole of Hanover, PA; grandchildren, Sharla and Joel Miller, Brandon Haines and companion Scottanna Jeffreys, Shannon Patten and husband Steve, and Adam, Anthony, Andrew, Christopher, and Sarah Haines; 8 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by brothers, Jimmy and Kenneth Haines.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, January 19, 2017 at MYERS-DURBORAW FUNERAL HOME, 91 Willis St., Westminster, MD with Ed’s nephew, the Rev. Terry Hoke, officiating.  Interment will follow at Pleasant Valley Cemetery.  The family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
