George Allen “Jack” Myers, 86, of Taneytown, MD, died peacefully on Thursday, April 27, 2017 at Lorien Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Taneytown.  Born November 14, 1930 in Emmitsburg, MD, he was the son of the late Edward and Ada (Ashbaugh) Myers.  He was the husband of the late O. Louise (Foreman) Myers.

        Jack worked for many years at Cambridge Rubber Company in Taneytown, was a machine operator at Black & Decker for several years, and later worked as a custodian at Mount St. Mary’s University.  He was a proud veteran of the United States Army and served during the Korean War.  He was a member of Hesson Snider American Legion Post 120 in Taneytown, and Monocacy Valley VFW Post 6918 in Harney.  He enjoyed touring the Gettysburg battlefield and caring for stray dogs and cats.

        Surviving are step-son, Gary Abrecht and wife Carolyn of Westminster; step-daughter, Vicki Lynn Crampton of Waynesboro, PA; sisters, Margaret Myers of Emmitsburg, Anne Marie Hamburg and husband Sonny of Taneytown, and Linda Henning and husband Mike of Hagerstown; brother, Sterling “Butch” Myers of Gettysburg, PA; step-granddaughter, Kristin Abrecht Thomey and husband Daniel of Westminster; step-great-granddaughter, Skyler; step-great-grandson, Lincoln; and many nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by brothers, Eugene, Richard, Donald, and Terry Myers; sisters, Doris Forney and Madeline Myers; and step-son-in-law, Gary Crampton..

        A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 29, 2017 at MYERS-DURBORAW FUNERAL HOME, 136 E. Baltimore St., Taneytown, MD.  Interment will be private.  The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.
