Kenneth "Ken" Lambert

February 2, 1918 ~ June 18, 2017 (age 99) 99 Years Old


        Kenneth Robert "Ken" Lambert, 99, of Gettysburg, PA, and formerly of Taneytown, MD passed away on Sunday, June 18, 2017 at SpiriTrust Lutheran The Village at Gettysburg.  Born February 2, 1918 in Taneytown, he was the son of the late Lloyd S. and Mae (Zimmerman) Lambert.  He was the husband of the late Mildred (Dickensheets) Lambert, to whom he was married for 72 years.  Ken and Mildred were residents of Taneytown for 62 years before relocating to the Lutheran Retirement Village in Gettysburg.

        Ken graduated from Charles Carroll High School, class of 1935.  He was employed at the Carroll Record Company in Taneytown as a linotype operator and pressman for 28 years.  He then worked for the Carroll County Board of Education from 1971 until his retirement in 1992.  Ken was a life-long member of Emmanuel (Baust) Lutheran Church in Tyrone, MD, where he served for 45 years as Sunday School Superintendent and was a member of the Never Weary Class.  He also served many terms on Church Council and the cemetery board.  He was an active member of the Taneytown Senior Citizens (Trinity Lutheran Church Club) and served as president of the club for 20 years. 

        Surviving are daughter, Pat McEllroy and husband, the Rev. Robert S. McEllroy, III of Chambersburg, PA; granddaughter, Lara Huffman and husband Norman of Littlestown, PA; grandson, Shawn Null and wife Katrina of Lutherville-Timonium, MD; 5 great-grandchildren, Noell, TJ, Jacob, Grace and Zak; and a number of nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by 3 brothers, Ellsworth, Carroll and George Lambert, and a great-grandson, Luke Huffman..

        Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 23, 2017 at MYERS-DURBORAW FUNERAL HOME, 136 E. Baltimore St., Taneytown, MD with Ken’s son-in-law, the Rev. Robert S. McEllroy, III officiating.  Interment will follow in Emmanuel (Baust) Cemetery in Tyrone.  The family will receive friends on Friday from 9 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.
