Nancy Cecilia “Nan” Otte, 86, of Taneytown, MD died peacefully on Thursday, September 7, 2017 at her home with her sister, Libby, and some dear friends at her bedside.  Born November 21, 1930 in Gamber, MD, she was the daughter of the late George and Marjorie (Sparks) Shower .  She was the wife of the late Arnie Otte, who died in 2014.

Nan was an Elementary School Teacher in Baltimore County and Prince George’s County, MD, Hawaii, and Nebraska. She was a member of Grace United Church of Christ in Taneytown.  She was very generous and caring with her family, and was known for being fun-loving and kind.  She was also very witty, feisty, and had a great sense of humor.  She enjoyed dancing, playing cards, and traveling, but only in luxury.  She was a wonderful cook.  When her mother passed away, Nan took over the role of family matriarch.

Surviving are sisters, Suzanne McNabb and husband Kenneth of Scotland, and Elizabeth “Libby’ Cain of Taneytown; niece, Leith Harvey of Taneytown and her children, Sunny and Arlo, and Arlo’s wife Blair; nephew, Geoffrey Clingman and wife Cindy of Leesburg, VA, and children, Nathan, Chase and Courtney Seniff, her husband Clarke, and their children, Ella and Jack.  Nan was predeceased by brother-in-law, Ron Cain.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, September 13, 2017 at MYERS-DURBORAW FUNERAL HOME, 136 E. Baltimore St., Taneytown, MD with Pastor Steven Ostendorf officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Gardens in Finksburg.  The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.
