Charles Edward Grimes, Jr., 63, of Taneytown, MD, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 18, 2017 following a lengthy illness.  Born January 17, 1954 in Miami Beach, Florida, he was the son of Elvira (Castells) Grimes and the late Charles E. Grimes, Sr.  He was the husband of Julia (Batterden) Grimes, to whom he was married for 39 years.

            Charlie was a graduate of Mt. Saint Joseph High School in Catonsville.  He worked in Transit Systems Project Management with Aecom in Baltimore for 21 years.  He enjoyed camping, grilling, and going to the beach.  He played guitar and enjoyed playing harmonica to blues music.  He loved cutting-edge technology of all kinds.  Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. 

            Surviving, in addition to his beloved wife Julia, are daughter, Jessica Meerdter and husband Joseph of Hanover, PA; son, Matthew Grimes; grandchildren, Connor Haj and Juliana G. Meerdter.  He is additionally survived by many brothers-and-sisters-in-law,  nieces and nephews.

            A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 21, 2017 at MYERS-DURBORAW FUNERAL HOME, 136 E. Baltimore St., Taneytown, MD, with Chaplain Art Monroe of Carroll Hospice officiating.  Interment will be private.  The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home on Friday.
