Clifton Frank Krieg, Sr.

Clifton Frank “Cliff” Krieg, Sr., 87, of Taneytown, MD died on Wednesday, February 21, 2018 at Frederick Memorial Hospital in Frederick, MD.  Born July 31, 1930 in Baltimore, he was the son of the late Christopher Frank and Margaret Ruth (Yingling) Krieg.  He was the husband of Genevieve (Matthews) Krieg, to whom he was married for 67 years.

Cliff was a Lineman and Technician for C&P Telephone Company for almost 42 years.  He was a proud veteran of the United States Navy, serving aboard the USS Toledo in the late 1940s.  He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Taneytown and the local Knights of Columbus.  He was a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge #2277 in Westminster and was Past Exalted Ruler of Lodge #7 in Woodstock, MD.  He enjoyed boating, crabbing, collecting beer steins and spending time with his family and friends.  He was an avid fan of the Baltimore Orioles, the Baltimore Colts and the Baltimore Ravens.  Cliff was known for his warm heart, Hollywood good looks, his velvety smooth baritone voice, and his rapier wit.

Surviving, in addition to his beloved wife Genevieve, are daughters, Deborah Lopresti of Timonium and Mary Thomas and husband Joseph of Mt. Airy; son, Clifton Frank Krieg, Jr. and wife Christina of Warrenton, VA; 6 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by his sister, Mary Ruth Gayhardt and a son-in-law, Thomas Lopresti.  

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, February 26, 2018 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 44 Frederick St., Taneytown, MD, with Father John F. Lesnick as celebrant.  Burial will follow at Lakeview Memorial Park in Sykesville. The family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Sunday, February 25th at MYERS-DURBORAW FUNERAL HOME, 136 E. Baltimore St., Taneytown, MD.
