James Taylor Russell, Sr., 90, of Emmitsburg, MD, died Sunday, April 23, 2017 at University of Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia.  Born February 19, 1927 in Canmer, KY, he was the son of the late Roy and Onie (Meadows) Russell.  He was the beloved husband of the late Ann Louise (Commarato) Russell.

            Jim was a proud veteran of the United States Armed Forces, serving 4 years in the United States Navy and 16 years in the United States Air Force.  While stationed with the Air Force in Washington State, he hitchhiked to Caldwell, NJ in order to propose to his beloved Ann.  She said, “Yes,” and they spent 52 happy years together until the time of her passing in 2003.  Jim enjoyed traveling, doing leatherwork, and watching westerns.  He loved riding his motorcycle and was still riding at the age of 89.

            He is survived by sons, Roy Michael Russell and wife Theresa of Emmitsburg, MD, and James Taylor Russell, Jr. of Darlington, IN; grandchildren, Lindsay S.K. Russell Harding and husband Zachary of Thurmont, MD, and Kyle J.E. Russell and Tye L.M. Russell, both of Emmitsburg.

            Services and interment will be held at Arlington National Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to VFW Emmitsburg Memorial Post 6658, P.O. Box 403, Emmitsburg, MD, 21727.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home in Emmitsburg.
