Rick Jenkins Obituary

Rick Alan Jenkins, 59, of Taneytown died on Memorial Day, Monday, May 28, 2018 at Johns Hopkins Medical Center in Baltimore.  Born October 8, 1958 at the Patuxent River Naval Air Station in Patuxent River, MD, he was the son of the late Kenneth and Margaret (Caples) Jenkins.  He was the devoted husband of Kimberly (Bankert) Jenkins, to whom he was married for 40 years.

Rick was a graduate of Francis Scott Key High School, class of ’77, where he was a standout basketball player.  He still holds the record at FSK and in Carroll County for most points scored in a game (60) and was the first player ever from Carroll County to be named to the Baltimore All-Metro 1st Team.  Rick was a Construction Foreman with Manganaro Midatlantic in Beltsville, MD for 18 years.  He enjoyed reading, especially westerns and about history and sports.  He was a collector of ball caps, and was an avid fan of the Baltimore Ravens and the Maryland Terps.  He was very active with the former Taneytown Jaycees and enjoyed working with the Haunted Barn event each year.  He enjoyed having his front porch as the gathering spot for Taneytown parades over the years.  Rick was a thoughtful and caring person whose greatest joy in life was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Surviving, in addition to his beloved wife Kim, are his son, Andrew Jenkins and wife Kenya of Randallstown; daughter, Erin Jenkins and significant other Antoinne Magruder of Frederick; siblings, Teresa Tischa of Westminster, Steve Jenkins and wife Monica of Taneytown and Kendra Hans and husband Roger of Westminster; mother-in-law, Jane Bankert of Taneytown; grandchildren, Amir Jenkins and Arien and Adorien Magruder; several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.  In addition to his parents, Rick was predeceased by his father-in-law, Joseph Bankert.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 4, 2018 at MYERS-DURBORAW FUNERAL HOME, 136 E. Baltimore St., Taneytown, MD with Pastor Darrell Davis officiating.  Burial will follow at Highland View Cemetery in Sykesville.  The family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Sunday, June 3rd at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Rick’s name to Carroll Hospice, 292 Stoner Ave., Westminster, MD  21157.
