Agnes (Weigman) Schmidt

September 27, 1929 — January 26, 2022

Taneytown

Agnes Elizabeth Schmidt, 92, of Taneytown joined her husband Edgar at her new residence in heaven on Wednesday, January 26, 2022.  She is reading, coloring, paint-by-numbering, and playing with all the dogs that have passed before her.  Born September 27, 1929 in Baltimore, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Marie (Geisler) Weigman.  Her husband, the late Edgar B. Schmidt, passed in 2020.

Born in the 20s, Agnes watched many go off to fight in WW II, and in 1951 became the wife of one hero who came back.  She and Edgar bought a house in the suburbs where they raised three daughters with love and discipline.  They did without many things to be able to afford Catholic school tuition through 12th grade for three children.  Agnes maintained friendships with childhood friends, overcame multiple health challenges, and donated money generously to various causes.  She enjoyed reading, watching Hallmark movies, collecting St. Bernard memorabilia, and visiting family members and friends.  The youngest of seven children, she watched sadly as many of her friends and all of her siblings passed before she did.

Surviving are daughters, Angela Whitlock and husband George of Cody, WY, Mary Harris and husband Gary of Ocean View, DE, and Katrina Schmidt and husband Steve of Taneytown; 9 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Mom knew that we were there for her at the end, and we told her how much we loved and respected her as a mother, friend, wife, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother.  Dad and mom are now eternally together in heaven.  They are watching over us.  So many expressions of love for her were amazing.  Thank you to all who reached out; for all of the thoughtful calls, texts, cards, messages, well-wishes, and prayers we’ve received.  Your care and concern for her and for our family has meant more than you might know.  You have our heartfelt gratitude.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, February 11, 2022 at Lakeview Memorial Park, 2724 Liberty Rd., Sykesville, MD with funeral celebrant John Morrill officiating.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home in Taneytown.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Agnes’ name may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Dr, Memphis, TN, 38105.
