Allen Glenn Harman

Allen G. Harman passed away peacefully surrounded by family on January 22, 2024 at the age of 93, at Brightview Westminster Ridge. He was born on June 21, 1930 in Silver Run, MD to the late Calvin H. and Edna (Maus) Harman. He was married to the late Margaret “Peggy” (Bankert) Harman for 45 years.

Allen was baptized, confirmed and married at St. Mary’s United Church of Christ in Silver Run, where he was a lifetime member and served on the church consistory and the property committee, and had 15 years perfect attendance in Sunday School. He graduated from Westminster High School in 1947.

Allen was drafted into the US Army in 1953. He spent two years in the 351st Infantry, Headquarters, and Headquarters Courts and Boards Office as a clerk-typist and was stationed at the Free Territory of Trieste.

Allen worked for the Baltimore Gas and Electric Company for 37 years and retired from the Baltimore office in 1992 as a supervisor in the credit and collection department . He previously worked in the BG&E Westminster and Owings Mills offices.

He is survived by a daughter Susan McKay and husband, Scott, of Columbia, MD, granddaughter Heather Adamson and husband, Connor, of Corpus Christi, TX and grandson Connor McKay of Reston, VA. He is also survived by brother Fred Harman and wife Sandy of Gettysburg, PA, and sister-in-law Elaine Harman of Manchester, MD. He was predeceased by daughter Karen Harman, sister Margaret Dutterer, and brothers John, George, Robert, and Paul Harman.

Allen loved attending family sporting events, especially for his grandchildren. He also attended many baseball, football, basketball, and volleyball games at Westminster High School and McDaniel College.

He enjoyed attending car shows, car auctions and fairs. He spent many days roller skating at Rainbow and Sportsman’s Hall Roller Rinks. He especially loved driving and caring for his Mustangs, and looked forward to buying a new one every few years.

The family will receive friends at the Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 91 Willis Street, Westminster, MD 21157 on Monday, January 29, 2024 from 2 to 4 pm and 6 to 8 pm.

A funeral service will be held at St. Mary’s UCC, 1441 E Mayberry Road, Westminster, MD 21158 with Pastor Sam Chamelin officiating on Tuesday, January 30, 2024 at 11 am with viewing from 10 to 11 am.

Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery next to his beloved wife, Peggy.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Allen’s name may be sent to St. Mary’s UCC, 1441 E Mayberry Road, Westminster, MD 21158. Arrangements by Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, P.A. Online condolences may be made to www.myersdurborawfh.com.
