Betty Jane Copenhaver

On Tuesday March 10, 2026 Betty Jane Copenhaver, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at Lorien Nursing Home in Taneytown. Born on August 23, 1932, in Enterprise, MD, she was the daughter of the late Vernon Heffner, Sr. and Annie Condon Heffner. She was the loving wife of the late Ray Angell Copenhaver for almost 70 years.

Betty worked for 22 years at Butte Knit and retired from EZ Industries. She was an active member of the Messiah United Methodist Church in Taneytown. She was very active in her church where she served on many committees throughout the years. She was well known for her famous angel food cakes and loved a good BLT sandwich. She loved cooking for family and friends, and her table was always open for all to sit and eat when they came to her house. She loved nature and especially feeding and watching birds. She loved children and had a huge heart for supporting children’s causes.

She is survived by her four daughters, Susan Topper and her husband Patrick, Myra Caprarola and her husband Stephen, Debra Black and her husband Jeff, and Cathy Gronaw and her husband Tom; her five granddaughters; ten great-grandchildren; and her sister Martha Brown.

She was predeceased by her grandson Collin Caprarola, her brothers and sisters, and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends 5-7 p.m., Friday March 13, 2026 at MYERS-DURBORAW FUNERAL HOME, P.A. 136 E. Baltimore Street (21787) and from 10 a.m. Saturday March 14, 2026 at the Messiah United Methodist Church, 20 Middle Street, Taneytown (21787) with a Funeral Service beginning at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contribution may be offered in Mrs. Copenhaver’s name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Messiah United Methodist Church.
