On Thursday, April 9, 2026, Charles Gwynn Campbell, Jr. passed away peacefully at his home in Freeland, Maryland, surrounded by his loved ones and his dogs. He was 96 years old.
Born on December 6, 1929, Charles was the son of the late Charles Gwynn Campbell, Sr. and Virginia Laura Campbell (née Eckert). He was the devoted husband of the late Delphine Mary Campbell (née Haltiner).
In his youth, Charles trained horses at Pimlico with his father until he joined the Army, where he served during the Korean War, and also occupied Japan. Afterwards, he and Delphine traveled the country training horses. He then became a postmaster in Reisterstown until his retirement in 1985.
Following retirement, Charles enjoyed life’s simple pleasures, he loved Patsy Cline, and took any opportunity to get up and dance. Sundays were spent at the races and searching flea markets for a good deal or the next coin for his collection. Charles loved all animals and never met a horse or a dog he didn’t love and didn’t love him back.
Charles is survived by his grandchildren: Jessica D. Walker, Charles H. Walker, Rosemari J. Fassette, and Sarah D. Walker; his great-granddaughter, Ryleigh E. Walker, as well as his beloved dogs—Gizmo, Louie, and Woody.
Charles was predeceased by his wife, and by his daughter, Laura Desiree Walker.
The family will receive friends for visitation at Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, P.A., 91 Willis Street, Westminster, MD 21157, on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., with a funeral service beginning at 8pm.
