After his military service, Don and Virginia settled in Carroll County where he became a history and social studies teacher at Taneytown High School and Francis Scott Key High School. He was an educator for 31 years and was beloved and respected by colleagues and students.
While deeply involved in his career and family, Don always found time to pursue his personal passions. He enjoyed dealing antiques, restoring old homes, gardening and landscaping, spoiling his dogs, decorating for the holidays, and was extremely proud of his early Lionel train collection. He was a charter member and former president of the Taneytown Heritage Committee, now Taneytown Heritage and Museum Association, Inc. Don enjoyed the camaraderie of his many acquaintances and lifelong friends.
