Donald Ray Warehime

Donald Ray Warehime (better known as Ray, Pop, Grandpa, Pap, Albert Gupenhiemer), died at the age of 95 (8.25 years short of the forecasted 104), Monday August 25, 2026 at home.

Born November 20, 1930 in Reisterstown MD, he was the son of the late Walton S. and Hilda R. Warehime. He was preceded by his unflappable wife of 55 years - a woman way out of his league - Caroline S. Warehime, and his beloved older brother, Paul.

Ray is survived by his kids: Steve, Kevin and Donna; grandkids: Jennifer, Sarah, Joe, Brandon, Bryce, Danielle, Sheldon, Ruslan, Hanna and Mikhail; great-grandkids: Makayla, Connor, Makenzie, Lena, Mara, Jaxon, Makenna, Everly, Olivia & Asher; great-great-grandkid: Layla; and his extended family: MaryAnn, Bruce, Roxane, Tatyana, and Famila.

Ray enjoyed keeping busy, making oddly specific inventions, and giving people unsolicited advice. He was a ‘doer’ - working for the B&O railway, serving in the U.S. Army, managing Shriner’s Manufacturing Company (he could sew a mean button), assisting with his in-laws’ companies: Rainbow Skating Rink, Big Pipe Creek Park and Taney Rainbow Farms, as well as founding and owning Rainbow Farm and Home Center for over 10 years. He loved to dabble in a multitude of projects and never met a problem he couldn’t make more complicated. As a founding member of The Geezer’s, Ray continued to run the unrequested Feeser Road Neighborhood Watch until his final days. Roller skating was a great joy in his life; he played quad roller hockey, met his wife at Rainbow Skating Rink, competed in skating dance competitions with her, and continued to skate long after his doctors told him not to, enjoying hanging out at Magic Elm Skateland even after he hung up his skates.

An informal celebration of his life and death will be held on Saturday September 19, 2026. Guests may arrive at 1:30PM, the service will start at 2:00PM outside his home, 2211 Feeser Rd N, Taneytown, MD. “Beer and pretzels” will be served (if you know, you know - this familiar declaration).

In lieu of flowers, Ray could be memorialized by a contribution to the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs, BridgingLife or Salvation Army, enjoying milk and cookies after ice cream, or offering out of pocket advice to a stranger.
