Doris Belfield

Doris "Gussie" Belfield, 86, of Taneytown, Maryland passed on September 19th, 2026 at Lorien Taneytown. Born on October 6th, 1939 in Creston, North Carolina to the late Anna Lee and late Avery Pope, she was the devoted wife of the late Joseph Daniel Belfield, loving mother of Douglas Belfield; and dear sister of Bryce Pope and Nora Cole.

Doris was a student of Riverview High School in Creston, North Caroline where she was a letterman on the woman’s basketball team. After graduating, she began her career as a receptionist at the Pentagon. She eventually moved onto the National Association of Elementary School Principals where she became Executive Director’s Assistant. One of Doris’s favorite hobbies was duckpin bowling where she was a professional player in the DC metro area.

A memorial gathering will be held at Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 136 E. Baltimore St., Taneytown on Saturday, November 14 from 10 AM to 12 PM, with a memorial service beginning at 12 PM.
