Doris Marie (Weaver) Hemler, age 83 of Taneytown, passed away peacefully in her home on Friday, June 27, 2025. Born in Hanover, August 11, 1941, she was the daughter of Ruth Irene (Myers) Duke & Robert Henry Weaver, Doris was married to James David Hemler, Jr. for 65 years.
Doris’ hobbies included painting, especially ceramics, reading Steven King novels and watching “Law & Order” & “NCIS” on TV. She also had a huge interest in anything related to the RMS Titanic. Doris really liked listening to Vangelis’ “Hymne” and music from Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “Phantom of the Opera”.
Doris worked at McCory’s in Hanover, the Taneytown Cleaners, Wantz Chevrolet, The Looking Glass in Westminster and Wogan’s Hardware in Littlestown. She was a beautician manager certified by the MD Board of Cosmetology. She was a longtime member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Taneytown.
Besides her husband, James, she is survived by her children: Charlene M. (Hemler) and husband Steve Slaybaugh, Tina L. (Hemler) and Scott Niebuhr, and James A. (Tony) Hemler; her grandchildren: Samantha (Hemler) and husband Eric Schlitzer, Bryan Hemler and wife Lauren, Jason Slaybaugh and Jenny, Laura (Slaybaugh) and husband Tim Thurston, Andrea (Niebuhr) and husband David Albaugh, Bryan, James and Casey Niebuhr; her great grandchildren are Violet, Hayden, Lilly, Carter, Ayden, Kamryn, Knox, Kaiya, Jeremiah, Layanna, Bryson, Addison and Stevie.
