Dorothy V. Smith Thornton (Billie), age 85, died July 22, 2024 at Lorien Nursing and Rehabilitation Center located at 100 Antrim Blvd, Taneytown, Maryland. 21787, surrounded by her family and friends. She was born August 7, 1938 in Westminster, Maryland. Dorothy was the daughter of the late John Arthur Frisby and Beatrice Summers Frisby, and was the wife of the late Leroy Thornton.
Dorothy worked at New Windsor Service Center and Western Maryland College. She retired from Carroll Lutheran Village Healthcare Center after 18 years of service as a Missions Attendant. She was a member of the Women’s Faith Ministry of Union Bridge, Maryland. She was a member of the Bowens United Methodist Church of Bark Hill. Later in her life, Dorothy joined the Uniontown Methodist Church, in Westminster. She loved spending time with her family and friends and especially enjoyed watching her soap operas with her siblings.
Dorothy leaves to cherish her memory her children; Reverend Dorothy Daughton (Glen) of Baltimore, Raymond Smith Jr. (Ginger) of Hagerstown, Doris Brown (Elijah) of Westminster, Ragina Smith of Taneytown, Jed Smith (Shana) of Hanover, PA, Jay Smith (Richelle) of Gettysburg, stepchildren Dorothy Jones of Baltimore, MD, Charles Smith of Baltimore, and Virgie Thomas of Baltimore, and Wendall Thornton of Frederick.
Dorothy is survived by siblings; Frances Daughton, Charlotte Willis (Wayne), and John Frisby. She is survived by a Sister In-law, Netty Gibson. She is further survived by 23 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, and a host of step grandchildren, as well as numerous loving Nieces, Nephews, Cousins and Caring Friends.
Dorothy is predeceased by grandsons, Terrell and Darrel Smith; and stepson, Thomas Smith; and stepdaughter, Mae Smith. She is predeceased by the following siblings; Mary Dorm, Arthur Frisby, Agnes Blake, Harriet Hill, Barbara Outen, Caroline Ross, and Calvin Summers.

The Viewing will be held on Saturday, August 3, 2024 from 1-3 and 5-7 at Myers Durboraw Funeral Home, P.A., 91 Willis Street Westminster, MD. 21157. A Public Viewing will be held on Monday August 5, 2024 at the United Methodist Church 165 East Main Street, Westminster, MD. 21157 from 10 am until 11 am with a Service of Christian Burial to follow.
