Elaine M. Schmidt, age 97 of Emmitsburg passed away on August 20, 2026, at Gettysburg Hospital. Born in Baltimore Maryland, March 21, 1929, she was the daughter of the late John H. and Marie G. Eifert.

She attended high school at The Institute of Notre Dame in Baltimore, Maryland. She was the wife of the late John H. Kimmel, Jr. Together they had 4 children, Carol Lea Heflin, John Harvey Kimmel III, who is married to Bonnie, Brian Wayne Kimmel and Paul Francis Kimmel, who is married to Tracy Pease. Later she was married to the late Frank Menchyk, bringing his children into her life, Sue BeVier, Christina Reamer, Frank Menchyk who is married to Janet and Mark Menchyk who is married to Carolyn. Later she married William Schmidt who later passed.

Besides her children and stepchildren, she is survived by grandchildren, Matthew Heflin, Alison Kimmel, and Stuart Kimmel; great-grandchildren, Logan Heflin, Aurora Muse, Maxwell Heflin, Juliet Heflin, Ryland Kimmel and Logan Kimmel; step grandchildren, Jack BeVier and wife Jamie, Jill Allen and husband Devin, Tory Reamer, Laurie Redenbach and husband Lee, and Gracie Gadeberg; and numerous great-grandchildren.

She is predeceased by her grandson, Nathanial Paul Heflin; stepson, Rick Menchyk; step grandsons, Rich Menchyk and Toby Reamer.

Elaine was dedicated to the Catholic Church, she was a longtime member of St. Joesph Catholic Church in Emmitsburg, Maryland. Where she was a Lector and Cantor for many years. She received the Vincentian 3rd order in 2019. She also volunteered at St. Catherine’s Nursing Home. She spent countless hours crocheting hats and blankets for newborns in nearby hospitals. She enjoyed weekly trips to thrift stores, playing piano, singing, baking and playing Skip-Bo with friends and family.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, September 24, 2026, at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 47 De Paul Street, Emmitsburg, Maryland with inurnment to follow the mass at New St. Joseph Cemetery, Emmitsburg.
