Eric (Bud) Eugene Glass, 85, died July 17, at his home on Toms Creek Church Road, Emmitsburg, Maryland.
A lifelong resident of Emmitsburg, Eric was born February 11, 1940. He was the son of the late Paul C. and Lucy Estelle Davis Glass. Eric and his wife Audrey resided in the house they built on his home farm (where he was born) near Toms Creek Church.
Eric graduated from Emmitsburg High School in 1958 with an agricultural degree while working on his home farm. He began working for Taney Supply and Lumber Company in 1958. Eric and Audrey purchased the business in 1962 and by 1986 merged to become The Taney Corporation. He remained active in the family-owned business along with his two sons, Jeffrey and Brian, for over 60 years. The Taney Corporation is a manufacturer of wood stairways and stair parts located in Taneytown, Maryland.
Eric also had an extensive farming operation in red Angus and Belted Galloway cattle, specializing in raising crops of corn and soybeans.
Eric was the previous owner/operator of Presidential Airways, located at North Philadelphia Airport, serving corporate America as an aircraft charter operator.
Eric enjoyed traveling, being outdoors, working on his garden and farm and most of all, his family and grandchildren. He had a zest for life that was passed on to all who knew and loved him. He brought laughter and joy to all family occasions.
Eric enjoyed being the official weather observer for the Emmitsburg area, reporting daily to NOAA at Sterling, Virginia.
Eric was a past director of the Taneytown Bank & Trust Company, serving 23 years. He was also the past Chairman of the Board of the bank and served as acting Bank President.
Eric was the past President of the Taneytown Chamber of Commerce, and served 30 years as secretary of the Chamber.
Eric was the Chairman of the Finance Committee and director of The Gettysburg Hospital for 13 years. He was also a member of the Program Review Committee of Carroll County Commissioners, member of the President’s Land & Building Use Committee of Mount Saint Mary’s College, Chairman of the Building Committee and longtime member of Incarnation United Church of Christ, Treasurer and Consistory member of Incarnation United Church of Christ, director of Catoctin FFA Alumni Association, president of the Emmitsburg High School Alumni Association, president of the Emmitsburg PTA, director of the Taneytown Lions Club and the bulletin editor, director of JP Foods and US Foods, a Fortune 500 company located in Columbia, Maryland. Eric was a trustee and president of the Emmitsburg Memorial Cemetery, Inc. Eric earned his Master Gardener degree from Penn State College.
Eric is survived by his wife and high school sweetheart of 60 years, Audrey J. Springer Glass, whom he married April 16, 1960. He is also survived by daughters & sons-in-law, Kimberly and husband David Skellan of Westminster, Karen and husband Joseph Haddon of Annapolis, sons & daughters-in-law, Jeffrey S. and wife Dawn of Gettysburg, PA, Brian D. and Christine of Taneytown and grandchildren Kristin (Michael Bailey) of Westminster, and Lindsay Skellan of Baltimore, and Morgan Glass of Frederick, Evan and Maddox Glass of Gettysburg. Eric is survived by sibling David (Casey) Glass of Emmitsburg. He was predeceased by brothers, John and Glenn, and sisters Linnis and Mildred and Beulah (Boots).
The family will receive friends on Monday, July 21, 2025, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. and from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the MYERS-DURBORAW FUNERAL HOME, P.A., 136 E. Baltimore Street, Taneytown (21787). Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 22, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at the Church of the Incarnation United Church of Christ, 124 W Main Street, Emmitsburg (21787) with Reverend Chris Spruill officiating. Interment will be in the Emmitsburg Memorial Cemetery in Emmitsburg.
