George E. (Gene) Rosensteel, Fayetteville, Pa, Paramount Senior Living, formally of Fairfield, Pa, and Emmitsburg, MD. Gene passed into heaven on Sunday morning, September 28th, 2025. He was the husband of the late Sylvia I. (Long) Rosensteel for 68 years. Born April 23rd 1932 in Gettysburg, he was the son of late George Francis and Mary Rose (Gelwicks) Rosensteel. He was a member of Saint Ignatius of Loyola Catholic Church of Orrtanna, PA.
Gene was a graduate of St. Joseph’s High School, Emmitsburg, MD (Class of 1950). He served four years in the U. S. Navy 1951-1955, during the Korean War. Gene then served a Machinist Trade at Landis Tool Company, Waynesboro, PA, 1956-1962. He then worked a short while for his Dad, and soon purchased his business, and was Owner/Operator of Rosensteel Bus Service in Emmitsburg, 1963-1967. He was appointed Postmaster of Emmitsburg in November of 1966 and retired in 1992. He was a founding member of Emmitsburg Lions Club and the recipient of the Melvin Jones Fellow Award. He also repaired almost 1,000 antique mechanical clocks during his retirement. Gene was a Jack of all trades and enjoyed helping family, neighbors, and friends with any project.
Our father was a devout Catholic who was highly involved with St. Joseph’s Catholic Church for 70 years. From altar boy when younger to many monthly meetings and church picnics to raise money. This love of service was extended in support for Mother Seton School and St. Joseph’s High School of which all five of us attended for 12 years. This was not a burden for our dad but a pleasure to provide a good Christian education.
