Harry Joe Dykes, 86, of Westminster, Maryland, passed away unexpectedly yet peacefully at his home on January 28, 2026. Born on October 1, 1939, in LaFollette, Tennessee, he was the son of the late James and Florence (Goins) Dykes.
Harry was the devoted husband of Sharon (Elmore) Dykes, with whom he shared 63 years of unwavering love, companionship, and commitment.
A distinguished veteran, Harry honorably served 23 years in the United States Army, as a proud member of the Army Security Agency and U.S. Army Intelligence and Security Command. Following his military career, he continued his life of service as a logistics manager supporting several government contracts, where he was respected for his diligence, integrity, and leadership.
Harry was a faithful member of Northwest Baptist Church and cherished the fellowship of his Bible study group. In his quiet moments, he found joy in reading history and fiction, completing crossword puzzles, and curating his extensive collection of National Geographic magazines.
Harry is survived by his beloved wife, Sharon; his children, Joseph and wife Jackie Dykes, Christopher and wife Sandra Dykes, Michelle Harpel, and Annamay Walls; his grandchildren, Elizabeth and husband Casey Horner, Rachel and husband Chris Atwater, and Hannah and Robbie Tyler; and his great‑grandchildren, Avery, Ian, and Landon. He is also survived by his siblings, Kenneth Dykes, Barbara Goins, and Linda and Von Bullock, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his son‑in‑law, Howard E. Harpel III; his great‑grandson, Lucas Tyler; and his siblings, Doris Teague and Lois Jean Dykes.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 5, 2026, at Myers‑Durboraw Funeral Home, P.A., 91 Willis Street, Westminster, MD 21157. Visitation will continue from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 6, 2026, at Northwest Baptist Church, 300 Westminster Pike, Reisterstown, MD 21136, followed by a Funeral Service at 11:00 a.m. Interment will take place 10:00 a.m., February 10, 2026, at Garrison Forest Veterans Cemetery in Owings Mills, Maryland.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Myers‑Durboraw Funeral Home, P.A., Westminster.
