“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord - Jeremiah 29:11
Therefore go and make disciples of all nations - Matthew 28:19
Hayden Ann Haines was born August 26, 2014 at Carroll County Hospital to proud Daddy, Brian Glenn Haines; Mommy, Samantha Ann “Sam” Medairy; and Big Brother, Zachary “Zach-Zach” Roth.
Hayden grew up and lived in Taneytown, Manchester, and Westminster, MD and was always surrounded by loving family like her Grandpa and Grandma, Glenn and Karen Haines of Taneytown, MD and Pop Pop and Mom Mom, Mike and Noreen Medairy of The Villages, FL (formerly of Manchester, MD). She had many loving aunts, uncles, great aunts, great uncles, and cousins by the dozens! Many countless close friends and her church family of Keymar Evangelical Wesleyan Church added to the loving, caring, and raising of this beautiful little girl.
Hayden was known for big smiles, warm hugs, distinct giggles, and iconic deep belly laughs. She also got a heaping dose of her parents’ stubbornness and “dig your heals in” attitude that was hard not to smirk at sometimes.
Hayden had been a student of Taneytown Elementary School since first grade and had recently completed fifth grade. School was not easy for Hayden, but she was still known by many teachers and staff for her big smiles and warm hugs that she handed out every morning on her way to class. She loved books and enjoyed Art, Music, Media, and even a few things in P.E. thanks to some amazing teachers!
At home, Hayden crafted, colored, and cut out thousands of colorful paper hearts to share with everyone! She loved animals and her pets. Often times she read books about animals and fish. And she was known for walking through the chicken pen, picking one up, and feeding it treats. The poor cows suffered through receiving only one of Hayden’s handfuls of feed at a time and our pup, Lady Caramel, and our cat, the “mountain lion” named Porcupine, were deeply loved and brought her smiles a plenty. But, above all, guinea pigs were her favorite! From Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle and Big Foot to Butter and Biscuit, Hayden spent countless hours with a “pig” on her lap.
Of course, Hayden cannot be talked about without mentioning that she is “Mommy” to hundreds of stuffed animal “stuffy babies!” Hayden’s love, attention, and care for her babies stemmed from the memories they brought her during difficult hospital stays. Nearly each one was known by name, personality, and mischievous characteristics. Stories and playing with them brought her endless joy and laughter; especially when voiced by Daddy “Gramps” or Pop Pop who is the original voice of Mousey.
Hayden started attending Keymar Evangelical Wesleyan Church in the Spring of 2018, where she professed her faith in Jesus as her Savior. She always enjoyed community outreach, Eggstravaganzas, and Trunk-Or-Treats where she often invited her dear friend Hope Ridinger to join her. After professing her faith in Jesus as her Savior, Hayden chose to publicly demonstrate her faith by being baptized on November 12, 2023. From that point forward, Hayden was often known for belting out during her favorite worship songs, taking time to go find quiet places to pray on her own; reaching a hand out to others who asked for prayer; and phrases like, “It feels so good to be in church today!”
2019 proved to be a difficult year for Hayden and her family when she started showing signs and symptoms which led to the diagnosis of a non-cancerous brain tumor. August of 2019 began a long chapter of surgeries and stays at John’s Hopkins Hospital and a series of Proton Beam Radiation treatments through the University of Maryland. Scans in August of 2024 were hopeful and promising as tumor growth had not been detected and procedures had not been required for some time. Heavy days came again in March and May of 2025 when new cysts were detected and aggressive growth became unresponsive to surgery.
In the midst of the heavy days, Hayden enjoyed her summer with decent health and energy. She went on vacations to Ocean City, MD and Deep Creek Lake, MD; had in home spa days with Mommy; took Mommy and Hayden trips to The Grotto for some of that good holy water; and had birthday celebrations with family and friends that included eleven (“not ten, count correctly Daddy!”) candles. No doubt, Hayden’s summer provided lasting memories and laughter.
In recent weeks, God revealed Himself to Hayden in no less than eight clear and distinct visions. These visions included: Jesus telling her, “Do not worry. Everything will be okay.”; Hayden picking out her cross; butterflies and dragonflies; locking up Satan in “high-security chains”; the disciples as they fished; and planting seeds that would grow into flowers. These visions provided Hayden with great comfort and continue to provide comfort to the family especially now that Jesus has taken her by the hand and walked her home.
Hayden’s last week was spent at home with family and friends including her Big Brother, Zach-Zach. Very minimal steps were needed to keep her comfortable and peaceful throughout the week. There was no struggle and no stress when Jesus took this beautiful child of God by the hand and said, “Let’s go home.”
Hayden’s life was, by all means, part of God’s plan to touch many; “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord - Jeremiah 29:11. It is the hope and plan of Hayden’s family to carry this on and help “plant these seeds” to bring others to Christ through sharing Hayden’s story; Therefore go and make disciples of all nations — Matthew 28:19. The devil had no hold on her and now we get to share the incredible strength and life of Hayden with others so that they too may know how Christ in them can carry them through life’s hardships.
