James C. Hewitt

On Tuesday, October 7, 2025, James Carroll Hewitt, Sr. passed away at his home in Harney, Maryland. He was the beloved husband of Kathleen Hewitt Tyler for 60 wonderful years. Born on Thursday, December 9, 1946, in Thurmont, Maryland, he was the son of the late Melvin J. Hewitt and Charlotte Hewitt nee Donnelly.

Jim was a bulk truck driver for Southern States for 30 plus years until he retired. He then worked at St. Catherines in Emmitsburg until they shut down.

Jim loved his family and spending time with the love of his life. Patty was always important to him. Jim always had a smile on his face and would do anything for anyone if he was able. Jim was a people person and enjoyed living life to the fullest.

Jim loved feeding his birds, being outside and enjoying the weather. He loved to travel when he was able. He managed a little league team, the Senators, in Taneytown for many years when he was younger. He was a member of the Harney Volunteer fire department.

In addition to his beloved wife, Kathleen (Patty), James is survived by his son, James Carroll Hewitt Jr.; daughter, Tina Hewitt and partner Ernie Havens; grandchildren, Kaytlyn Bowling and fiancé Alexander Redshaw, Jynapher Bowling, and Brianna Laramy and her boyfriend Andrew Lyons; Great grandson, Tanner Havens; sisters; Doris Hewitt Knott, and Kathy Hewitt (Suz) Wolfe; brothers, Jerry D. Hewitt and wife Angie Hewitt, and Monroe Hewitt, and sister-in-law, Ruth Hewitt; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Jim is predeceased by sisters, Evelyn Hewitt Greene and Mary (Peanut) Hewitt Little and brothers Lee Hewitt and Melvin Hewitt (Buster).
