James Paul Poorman, 79, of Westminster, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 27, 2022, at home. He was married to his bride Peggy for 56 years. Jim was born on November 20, 1942 in Greensburg, Pennsylvania to (the late) Gladys and Delbert Poorman. Jim was predeceased by his beloved brother Daniel Poorman and his sister-in-law Dana Meddows.
Jim was generous and abundant with humor. He loved family, art: stained glass, photography, painting, and shooting with friends. He and his wife enjoyed traveling, taking their children and nephews on camping trips, visiting family on the west coast, going on cruises as a couple, among other trips. Jim was involved with their church; things he enjoyed most- teaching Sunday School together, working at Camp Cherith summer camp together, completing service projects at the church, serving as a Deacon. He prioritized helping others and was known for being dependable.
His profession was with Verizon as a lineman for 29 years. He also spent time working for greyhound races in Florida and other states. He was a veteran of the US Army. Jim retired in 2001, enjoying his schedule of no schedule, spending winters in Myrtle Beach
Surviving is his wife Peggy, children: Jim Poorman and his companion Deb Chaney, Rebekah Snyder and her husband Jamie, grandchildren: Christopher Sizemore and his wife Shelby, Gabriel Snyder, Grace Snyder and her companion Michael Cowan, two wonderful great grandchildren: Guy Smith and Gauge Sizemore, nephews: Kevin Poorman, Corey Poorman and his wife Nicole, Todd Poorman and his wife Elizabeth and great nieces and nephew: Alexis, Kayden, Taylor, and Slater.
A celebration of Jim's life will be held at Westminster Bible Church on Saturday, February 5, 2022 with Pastor Carl Strine officiating. (310 Gorsuch Road, Westminster, MD 21157) Visitation with the family will be held from 11am to 12pm; service 12pm to 1pm; luncheon immediately following.
