Janet Larue (Overholtzer) Kreit, 84, of Westminster, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 20, 2022 at Lookabout Manor Assisted Living near Westminster after a very brave and courageous 10-year battle with Parkinson’s Disease. Born April 7, 1938 in Harney, MD, she was the daughter of the late Melvin and Mary (Keckler) Overholtzer. She was the devoted wife of William “Bill” Kreit, who was completely dedicated to her care. Janet and Bill had no children, but were godparents to many. They were married for 65 years.
Prior to her retirement, Janet was the owner of Janet L. Kreit Abstracting, where she worked as a title abstractor in the Carroll County Court House doing title work for various local attorneys. She was a member of St. John Catholic Church in Westminster. She enjoyed reading and spending time with her family and friends. She and Bill enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and Canada after their retirement. Janet was an avid fan of the Baltimore Orioles and the Baltimore Ravens.
Surviving, in addition to her husband Bill, is her sister, Marie Selby; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family. She was predeceased by 15 other siblings, Donald, George, Roy, Sterling, Ray, William, Chester, Dennis, Melvin Jr., and Wilbur Overholtzer; and sisters, Beatrice Fair, Mary Jane Rose, Wanda Strickhouser, Irene Koontz, and Coralea Riggel..
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, December 29, 2022 at Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 136 E. Baltimore St., Taneytown, MD with Deacon Charles E. Barnhart, Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Emmitsburg Memorial Cemetery at a later date. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Thursday at the funeral home.
