Jerry David Buckley, Sr., 86, of Harney, Maryland, passed away peacefully at home on February 24, 2026.
Born on July 26, 1939, in Finksburg, Maryland, he was the son of the late Grace N. Buckley and Maurice L. Buckley. He was raised on his family’s farm outside of Taneytown, where he grew up surrounded by country life and attended Uniontown Elementary School before graduating from Taneytown High School.
Jerry served in the United States Army for two years and continued his service in the Army Reserves for an additional two years. During the Vietnam era, he was stationed in Germany. He was a lifetime member of the VFW and a member of the Littlestown and Gettysburg Eagles.
Following his time in the military, he worked for many years as a factory worker and sewing machine mechanic.
Jerry and his wife, Barbara A. Buckley, shared 58 years of marriage together. Over the years, they built a life centered on family life, familiar routines, and time spent enjoying their shared interests.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara A. Buckley; his daughter, Christina L. Buckley; his brothers Franklin (Delores), Maurice (Arlene), and Jesse (Sheila); his sister Linda Keith (JR); his sisters-in-law, Vickie Buckley and Kitty Lippy; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Jerry D. Buckley, Jr.; and his brothers Robert, Kenneth, and James.
Outside of work, Jerry enjoyed operating tractors, attending car shows, and maintaining his classic cars. He and Barbara spent many years camping and boating on Maryland’s Eastern Shore, where they enjoyed time on their Grady White boat, catching crabs, and gathering with friends.
