John Matthew Simms was a man of remarkable accomplishments and even greater character. Throughout his 50 years, he served as an engineer, lawyer, and Colonel in the United States Air Force, earning countless merits and awards along the way. Yet, as meaningful as these accomplishments were, they were never what defined him most. John’s greatest devotion was to his faith and his family. He was a loving and attentive husband, an involved and devoted father, a genuine friend, a faithful servant, and a man who cherished every opportunity to spend time with his large and loving extended family. Those who knew John will remember not only what he accomplished, but the way he made the people around him feel loved, valued, and cared for. In 2023, John received the shocking diagnosis of Atypical Parkinson’s disease, specifically Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP). Despite the devastating progression of his disease, John continued to fight for the time that mattered most to him: to watch his sons, Brent, 18, and Brock, 15, grow into young men; to celebrate 25 years of marriage to his high school sweetheart, Alysa, and to reach his 50th birthday. He was taken from us far too soon. Throughout these difficult years, John and his family worked tirelessly to make every remaining moment meaningful—to create memories, share laughter and love, and surround him with the family and friends who meant so much to him. His final years were a testament to his strength, faith, and unwavering love for those closest to him. We are deeply grateful to everyone who walked alongside John and our family during these challenging years. Your prayers, kindness, friendship, encouragement, and support carried us through more than you will ever know. Our family is forever grateful, and John will be forever loved and deeply missed.
