Joseph Maurice Frazier, Jr., age 98 of Finksburg, MD died at home on Friday, May 16, 2025. Born March 29, 1927, he was the son of the late Joseph Maurice, Sr., and Mary Charlotte Frazier (Gill). He was the loving husband of Viola Katharine (Beury) Frazier who passed in 2004.
Joseph is survived by, daughters, Joyce Frazier Felan (Patrick) of Bulverde TX, Dr. Linda Frazier Mowbray (Paul) of Philadelphia PA; sons, Donald Frazier (Robin) of Taneytown, MD. Jim Frazier (Sandi) of Nashville, TN; grandchildren, Matthew, Laura, Holly, Jason, Shawn, Lizzie, Christopher, Emily, Anna, Molly, Joanna, Rebekah and Hannah and 5 great grandchildren.
Joe was the only son among 5 children and was raised with his family at 801 North Irving Street, Arlington Va. He attended St Charles to the 8th grade and attended Western High School graduating from Veteran’s High School in Washington DC in 1947. He enrolled at GW University after High School and Enlisting in the United States Navy in the waning year of World War II, being honorably discharged on July 19, 1946. Joe worked with his dad at the Naval Gun Factory in SW Washington and also at the new Howard Johnson’s in Arlington. He also worked at the D.C. Government Water Department replacing wooden Water lines though-out the District of Columbia. After marrying Viola on June 19, 1947 in Fredericksburg Virginia, he settled in Herndon, Virginia and was employed as an Instrument maker by the National Bureau of Standards on Connecticut Ave and Van Ness St in NW Washington, DC. Upon his Father’s retirement, Joe and Viola, joined his parents to move to the Finksburg, Maryland to care for aging Aunt Agnes Frazier and secure and restore the Family Farm. There he founded the Frazier Machine Company now in business for 69 continuous years. They built components for Industry and Defense supplying parts for the Mercury and Gemini space voyages. Joe loved gardening and raising strawberries and asparagus and worked on Fruit Trees as an Arborist. He was a life-long Auto Racing enthusiast and welded and fabricated high performance Auto Engines. He was a member in good standing of the Tri District Republican Club of Carroll County. Most importantly, he heroically provided care for Viola through illness, and his son John following his accident. He is highly regarded for giving help and aid to others throughout his life.
He was predeceased by son, John Milton Frazier; sisters, Mary Frances Frazier, Margaret Purnell (Dave), Marie Helen Nelson (Paul) and Charlotte Anne Stewart (Mike).
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 27, 2025 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the MYERS-DURBORAW FUNERAL HOME, P.A., 91 Willis Street, Westminster (21157). A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, at 11 a.m. with Pastor Ray Shutt officiating. Burial will follow at Finksburg Cemetery, 3010 Baltimore Blvd, Finksburg (21048).
