Joseph H. Scott Jr., 90, of Emmitsburg, passed away peacefully to join the Angels on Sunday, May 31, 2026, at home with his family by his side.

Joe was born on May 7, 1936 in Gettysburg, PA to Joseph (Harry) and Mary E. Scott. He grew up in Emmitsburg as the older brother to his three sisters, and graduated from St. Joseph's High School class of 1954. Joe married Beverly Willard November 23, 1957, and were married for 64 loving years.

Joe is survived by daughters Deborah Ann Freniere, Cathy Jo Cable and her husband Jamie, and Mary Louise Bellison and her husband Gary. He is also survived by his grandchildren John Freniere, Jacqueline and Joseph Vitale, Rachel Sayed and her husband Fahad, Brittany Koontz and her husband Andrew, and Stephanie Kempisty and her husband John; as well as his sisters Agnes E. Bentley and brother-in-law Paul, and Alice E. Boyle.

Joe was preceded in death by parents Joseph (Harry) and Mary E. Scott ; his wife Bev Willard, his sister Mary Jane Foster, and brother-in-laws Gene Foster and Leo Boyle; granddaughter, Faith Virginia Vitale; and son-in-law, John Freniere.

Joe served in the Air National Guard for six years, and was a proud veteran. Joe worked for National Cash Register Company, from which he retired, and then drove a school bus for Frederick County Public Schools.

Joe enjoyed bird watching, identifying every bird that visited his deck, and gardening- always sharing his garden treasures with friends and family. Joe loved going on camping trips to Chincoteaugue with their three daughters to Toms Cove in Chincoteague, VA, traveling with Bev on adventures out West, and annual summer trips to Lancaster, PA with his grandchildren in tow. Breakfast was Joe’s favorite time of the day, and enjoyed visiting his favorite local restaurants with friends including Dick and Roland. Joe was a loyal fan of the Baltimore Orioles cheering them on in good times & in the not so good times.

Farming was more than a passion for Joe, and he loved his International Harvester tractor, collecting farm toys and attending farm toy shows. In 2017, Joe donated a family heirloom from his Grandfather to the National Farm Toy Museum with his family by his side.

A Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 15, 2026 at St. Anthony Shrine, 16150 St. Anthony Road, Emmitsburg, Maryland. Interment will be held after the mass, at Mt. Tabor Cemetery, 10043 Longs Mill Rd, Rocky Ridge, MD 21778. Please join the family at Our Lady of Mount Carmel, 103 N Church St., Thurmont, MD 21788 for a Celebration of Life after the interment.
