Judith Lee (Falconiero) Schaefer of Finksburg died peacefully in her home surrounded by her family on January 24, 2022. Born February 13, 1944, in Chestnut Hill, PA, she was the daughter of the late Ralph V. and Ada (Howard) Falconiero. Judie was the wife of Edward D. Schaefer for 53 years.
She was a parishioner of Sacred Heart Church in Glyndon. Judie loved to preserve family memories in her carefully crafted scrapbook albums. She volunteered her time making prayer shawls for the sick, winter scarves for the homeless in Baltimore, and tiny caps for the newborns at Carroll Hospital Center. Judie selflessly served as a temporary foster mother for several children. She was a den mother in Cub Scouts and volunteered with the Girl Scouts for 25 years. She also served as a hospice volunteer for Dove House for more that 10 years. She was a member of Catholic Daughters of America and a sixty-year member of the Alumni Association of Chestnut Hill College.
Surviving in addition to her husband, are her daughters, Amy L. Spessard and her husband, Nelson of Frederick; Julie A. Schwarzopf, of Baltimore; Sarah M. Watson and husband Brian of Cincinnati, OH; Elizabeth A. Tarrier and husband Curtis, of Lewisport, KY. Sons, Geoffrey E. and wife Stacey Hanover, PA; Jonathan E. and wife Heather of Reisterstown; Stephen M. and wife Krista Lynn of Mercersburg, PA; sister Linda M. Falconiero of Cohasset, MA; and seventeen grandchildren. Judie was predeceased by a son, Matthew J. Schaefer.
The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. & 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, February 2, 2022 at Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 91 Willis Street, Westminster, MD 21157. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:30 on Thursday, February 3, 2022 at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, 63 Sacred Heart Lane, Glyndon, MD 21071. Interment will be at the Garrison Forest Veterans Cemetery in Garrison, MD.
