With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved Mom-mom, Lois Ann Smith, who peacefully passed away surrounded by her three granddaughters on July 11th at the age of 85 years old at Kline Hospice House.

To know Lois was to know unconditional love, unwavering kindness, and endless generosity. She was the heart of her family—the kind of person who made everyone feel welcome, cared for, and deeply loved.

She was a proud graduate of Taneytown High School class of 1958 and went on to build a successful career as a licensed cosmetologist where she dedicated many years forming lasting friendships with clients who became like family.

As a grandmother, affectionately known as “Mom-mom”, she created a lifetime of treasured memories through warm hugs, home-cooked meals, and countless moments filled with laughter. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the light of her life, and there was nothing she loved more than spending time with them. Her love was steady, selfless and unconditional – a gift that will continue to live on in each of them.

She is preceded in death by her beloved parents C. Walter Hahn and Pauline M. Sentz, and her beloved brother Richard L. “Bud” Hahn. She is survived by her loving husband of 45 years Randolph C. Smith, her sister-in-law Linda Hahn, her daughter Lori Isenberg (Bill), and their daughters Abby Thurston (Ryan), Katy Isenberg (Kyle), Christine Krone (Sam); her son John David Gunther (Heather), and his son Jonathan Gunther (Kendall).

She was blessed with eight great-grandchildren: Reid, Atley, Devyn, Jaxon, Kollins, Drew, Evan and Owen, each of whom brought immeasurable joy to her life.

Although our hearts are broken, we find comfort in knowing that her love will never leave us. It lives on in the traditions she created, the values she instilled, the stories we will continue to tell, and countless lives she touched.

A celebration of Lois’s life will be held on Friday July 17th, at Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home of Taneytown, MD; with visitation from 11-12, service from 12-1, followed by a luncheon hosted by Trinity Lutheran Church of Taneytown.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations be made to Carroll County Humane Society.
