Louella S. Harner

On October Monday October 19, 2026 Louella S. Harner died peacefully at Golden Crest Nursing Home in Westminster, MD. Born on November 27, 1928 she was the daughter of the late Norman and Beaula Sauble. She was the beloved wife of the late Elwood J. Harner.

As a child growing up, she worked on her parent’s farm as well as at her grandparent’s Country Inn, known as Saubles Inn until its closing in the 1940’s, as a waitress. Louella was a 1945 graduate of Taneytown High School and a 1949 Graduate of Hood College in Frederick, MD with a degree in Economics. Upon graduating from Hood College, she was employed by T. Rowe Price and Associate Investments in Baltimore, MD. She then married Elwood in 1950 and worked for The Spinning Wheel which was an antique magazine.

In 1983, Louella became an Elementary School teacher and worked for 30 wonderful years before she retired in 1993. She taught the third grade at Robert Moton and William Winchester Elementary Schools. She obtained her Masters Degree in Education at Western Maryland College and Towson University. She was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Taneytown, MD and served in many capacities, including teaching Sunday school, for 25 years. Louella was an avid animal lover and had many cats and dogs over the years.

Louella is survived by her daughter Linda Frankhouser and her husband Harry of Chambersburg, PA and their children Holly Mathieu of Westminster, MD and Heidi Lebitz of Shippensburg, PA and Eric Frankhouser of Chambersburg, PA along with their grandchildren Rafael Mathieu, Olivia, Zach and Brienne Lebitz and Hailey Frankhouser; Dennis Harner and his wife Mary and their children Christine Shaffer and Dawn Long both of Hanover, PA, their grandchildren Brooklyn and Colton Shaffer and Madelyn, Lily, and Ronald Long III.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday October 27, 2026 from 10-11am for visitation at Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, P.A. 136 E. Baltimore Street Taneytown (21787). A Funeral Service will begin at 11am with Pastor Michael Cantley officiating. Interment will be at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery. Arrangements by Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, P.A.
