Marilyn Mooshian Cole passed away on February 15, 2026, following a stroke. She was 82 years old.
Marilyn taught English for 36 years at Westminster High School, where she specialized in Shakespeare, 20th-century novel, and the Bible as literature. She loved her subject and cared deeply for her students, and many remembered her for making literature understandable, meaningful, and memorable.
An enthusiastic traveler, Marilyn visited all seven continents and all 50 states. Some of her greatest joys came from traveling to Egypt, the Great Barrier Reef, the Hawaiian volcanoes, and the South Island of New Zealand. One experience she never forgot was visiting Petra, Jordan. Though physically weak at the time, she believed God sustained her as she walked through the ancient ruins and fulfilled a lifelong dream. Truly, angels bore her up.
Marilyn loved Jesus Christ with her whole heart. One of her favorite verses was, I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. She firmly believed that with God, all things are possible. During her illness, she often said, “I am weak, but He is strong.” Her faith remained steady and central to her life.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Cole, her parents Charles and Grace Mooshian, and her brother Robert. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Lucille Cole; five grandchildren, Brad Cole (Niki), Valerie Schuldt (Peter), Matt Cole, Lily Koske (Tanner), and Mikayla Cole; three great-grandchildren, Dawson, Jace, and Lucy; three sisters, Carol Harper, Donna Stites (Rob), and Debbie Basely (David); three brothers, Chuck, Marty (Brenda), and Rick (Bobbi) Mooshian, and a dozen nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends for visitation on Thursday February 26, 2026 from 2-4pm and 6-8pm at the MYERS-DURBORAW FUNERAL HOME, P.A. 91 Willis Street Westminster (21157). Visitation will also be on Friday February 27, 2026 from 1pm-2pm at Meadow Branch Church of the Brethren where a funeral will begin at 2pm. Interment will be at Meadow Branch Cemetery.
If you wish to make a donation in Marilyn’s honor, they may be sent to: Meadow Branch Church of the Brethren (818 Old Taneytown Road, Westminster, MD 21158).
