Mary Fangmeyer Lathroum

October 6, 1926 — September 20, 2025

Mary Fangmeyer Lathroum, beloved mother and cherished member of her community, passed away peacefully at her home at Carroll Lutheran Village on September 20, 2025, surrounded by her family. Born on October 6, 1926, Mary was known for her artistic nature, intellectual curiosity and sense of adventure.

After earning her master's degree in American History from the University of Maryland, Mary dedicated over two decades to teaching social studies and creating the first archeology curriculum for the Baltimore County Public School System. Following her retirement in 1990, Mary found joy in traveling around the world and served as a tour guide in Baltimore, Washington, DC and Annapolis.

Mary actively engaged in the community at Carroll Lutheran Village, where she made her home since 1997, returning to her first love of painting and drawing, serving on the Social Committee, and taking trips with fellow residents.

Mary is survived by her daughters, Kathryn Lathroum Bloom and her husband David of Westminster, MD, and Amanda Lathroum Welsh and her husband, Kevin of Verdi, NV. She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Celeste Lathroum Greenfield, Emily Allison Bloom, and Callum Lathroum Welsh, as well as her cherished great-grandchildren, Josephine Rose Schoefield and David Leo Greenfield.

Mary was predeceased by her sister, Helen Elizabeth Fangmeyer Steele.

Mary will be remembered for her indomitable spirit, dedication to learning, and the enduring love she shared with her family and friends. Her legacy will continue to inspire those who had the privilege of knowing her.

A memorial service will be held at 2pm on October 24th at Krug Memorial Chapel in Carroll Lutheran Village. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to the Benevolent Care fund at Carroll Lutheran Village.
