Nannie Mae Johnson

Nannie Mae (Bandy) Johnson, (Nan) aged 98 of Rosedale, MD, passed away at Atlee Hill Skilled Nursing & Rehabilitation Facility, Westminster, Maryland, on September 13, 2025, following a brief illness. She was born in Imboden, Virginia, on April 9, 1927, and moved to Lynch, KY, as a child. After graduating from Lynch High School in 1945, she worked at Oak Ridge, TN. She was married to Monroe James Johnson Jr. of Jonesville, Virginia, on September 15, 1946, at Lynch Methodist Church, Lynch, Kentucky.

Moving to Maryland, she and Monroe raised four children in the White Marsh area. They were both active in Middle River Baptist Church, where Monroe served as a Deacon and Nan taught Sunday School and the GA youth (Girls Ambassadors).

She is survived by three children: Gloria Jean McGraw of Kennesaw, Georgia; Monroe James Johnson III of Westminster, Maryland; and Sabrena Jill Bowman-Steele (Jill Steele) of Richmond, Virginia. Together, they had seven grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Monroe James Johnson Jr., and her son, Ronald Duane Johnson, who passed away on June 8, 2025.

Nan was the youngest of nine children of Eula C. Bandy and John C. Bandy. She was the last surviving child. Her siblings, all deceased, were Earl (Utt) Bandy, Lynch, Kentucky; Bob Bandy, Tulare, California; Carl Bandy, Tulare, California; John D. Bandy, Louisville, Kentucky; Jack Bandy, Corbin, Kentucky; Dorothy (Bandy) Hogg, Tulare, California; Frances (Bandy) Lamarsta, Tulare, California; and Pauline (Bandy) Round, Tulare, California. She has several nieces and nephews. Her interests included raising flowers, homemaking, reading, and cross-stitching. She was well known as a writer of notes, cards, and letters of encouragement to family members over the years.

A memorial service is being planned. Family members and friends will be contacted with details once arrangements are finalized.
