Pauline W. Kittinger (Polly), 82, of Fairfield, PA, passed away on January 17, 2026, at home surrounded by her loving family. Born on June 28, 1943, in Gettysburg, she was the daughter of the late Donald E. Wright and Dorothy (Bream) Wright.
Polly dedicated her life to serving her community. She worked for 31 years as an assistant to the registrar at Mount Saint Mary’s University, retiring in 2009. Prior to her employment there, she was a waitress at The Palms Restaurant in Emmitsburg and worked as a florist at Cozy Flower Shop in Thurmont.
Polly was a Life member of the Vigilant Hose Company Auxiliary, Emmitsburg, where she served as the 1st president in 1975. She was an active and devoted member of Elias Lutheran Church in Emmitsburg, where she served as financial secretary for many years. In her younger years, Polly was an avid Mount Saint Mary’s basketball fan. She traveled to many games and even journeyed to watch the team compete in the NCAA tournament. For several years she was the Cheerleading coach for the Mount. She enjoyed reading, word puzzles, and black raspberry ice cream.
Polly is survived by her husband, James (Jim) Kittinger, to whom she was married for 62 years; her two daughters, Karen Ridenour of Emmitsburg and Holly Kuykendall (Bud) of Fairfield, her “Bonus” daughter Lindsay Tokar (husband Ryan & son Ethan), three grandchildren Jon Kuykendall (Lauren), Erica Hough (Josh) and Jared Kuykendall (Melissa); three great grandchildren, Greyson, Scarlett and Grant. She also leaves behind one brother, Robert (Bob) Wright of Shrewsberry, sister-in-laws Ruth Wright Sobotor of Carlisle, MaryAnn (Bob) Remaley of Fairfield and Denise Kittinger of Littlestown. She is predeceased by her brother, Dan Wright, son-in-law Larry (Rerun) Ridenour and brother-in-law, Tom Kittinger. She will be remembered by numerous nieces and nephews.
A special thank you to her caregivers, Stacey Myers, Dayna Johnson, Tressa Palmer and Jessi Santoyo.
Friends may visit on Thursday Jan 22nd from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm at Myers-Durboraw Funeral home in Emmitsburg, MD. Funeral services will begin at 11am on Friday, January 23rd at Elias Lutheran Church, Emmitsburg, MD. Pastor Debra Linton will be officiating. Interment will be at the Emmitsburg Memorial Cemetery.
