Richard "John" Leo Adelsberger

Richard "John" Leo Adelsberger, age 86 of Fairfield PA, died peacefully with his family by his side on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, at Cross Keys Brethren Home, New Oxford, PA. Born July 2, 1939, he was the son of the late Joseph Dwen and Adele Mae (Wood) Adelsberger.

John received a degree from Mount Saint Mary's College in 1961 and after graduation worked his entire teaching career for the Howard County Maryland Public School system for many years, including Atholton High School where he taught American history and social studies for over three decades. John also received a masters degree from Morgan State College in 1966. After his retirement he enjoyed traveling, especially to the countries of Germany, Italy, and France, each of which he visited numerous times. He tried his hand at many hobbies successfully over the years including, painting, woodworking, photography and many others. He enjoyed reading history books, cooking, gardening, baking, watching action movies, including college basketball, and being with his family and friends.

He is survived by daughter, Natalie Ann Adelsberger of Fairfield, PA; son, Mark Eric Adelsberger also of Fairfield PA; grandchildren, Leanne, Tara, Chad, Alexis, seven great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Constance Marie Adelsberger; son John Cabot Adelsberger; siblings James, Joseph, Francis, Eugene, Alice (Adelsberger) Dunn, Jane (Adelsberger) Streets, Martina (Adelsberger) Mooney, Adele (Adelsberger) Engel, and Ann (Adelsberger) Fleischman.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, at 12 p.m. at Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 210 W Main St. Emmitsburg MD. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, August 6thfrom 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Interment will follow at New Saint Joseph Cemetery, Emmitsburg MD.
