Richard E. “Did” Lawrence, Sr., age 85, of Taneytown, died Friday July 7, 2023, at BridgingLife (Dove House), Westminster, MD. Born, April 14, 1938, in Carroll County he was the son of the late Earl T. and Pauline A. Lawrence. He was the loving husband to Wanda A. Lawrence for 62 years.
“Did” worked for National Advertising for 10 years, and as a lineman for Potomac Edison until his retirement. He was a proud Army veteran, and a member of Pleasant Valley fire Co., Harney Fire Co. and the American Legion Post #120 Taneytown. He enjoyed repairing and restoring Oliver tractors.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Melissa McLane and husband Steve of Thomasville, PA; son, Richard E. Lawrence, Jr. and wife Susie of Union Bridge; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild; sister, Louise Black; and brother, Ralph F. Lawrence. He was predeceased by his stepbrother, Donald Leister.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 11, 2023, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at MYERS-DURBORAW FUNERAL HOME, P.A., 136 East Baltimore Street, Taneytown, MD 21787. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 12, 2023, 1 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Cris Frigm officiating. Burial, with Military honors will follow at Trinity Lutheran Church Cemetery, Taneytown.
