Ruth Jean Berwager

Ruth Jean Berwager, 94, of Taneytown, MD, passed away peacefully on June 2, 2026. Born in Taneytown on October 3, 1931, she was the cherished daughter of the late William K. Flickinger and Hilda Zepp Flickinger.

A proud 1949 graduate of Taneytown High School, Jean went on to work for many years as a skilled seamstress until her retirement. She was blessed with two marriages in her lifetime, first to the late John A. Cornett, and later to the late John C. Berwager. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life, and she dedicated many years of service to the Frizzleburg Bible Church as the Sunday School secretary and a member of the Ladies Aide.

Jean lived life with a vibrant spirit. She found great joy in baking, traveling, fishing, and entertaining her beloved family and friends. Above all else, Jean will be remembered for her fierce, unconditional love. She was the unwavering rock of her family, the person everyone could rely on for anything, no matter what. The incredible sacrifices she made for those she loved will be forever remembered, and her legacy lives on in the countless lives she touched, taught, and inspired.

She is survived by her devoted daughters: Cynthia Wantz (husband - Daniel) of Taneytown, MD; Catherine Diehl of Taneytown, MD; Charlotte Schaffer (husband - David) of Keymar, MD; and Connie Giannotto of Abbottstown, PA. ; as well as 15 grandchildren, 10 step-grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husbands she was preceded in death by her brother W. Robert Flickinger and her sister Doris Eckard

She is deeply missed by her family, friends, and the community she called home.

Visitation will be held Monday, June 8, from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. at MYERS-DURBORAW FUNERAL HOME in Taneytown, MD. Funeral services will take place on Tuesday, June 9, at 1:30 p.m. Interment will follow at Uniontown Cemetery.
