Shirley Irene Frock Prutch, 91, of New Oxford, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully after a remarkable life lived with intelligence, strength kindness, and extraordinary humility. Born July 21, 1935, in Baltimore Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Earl and Gladys Frock. Shirley shared more than 50 wonderful years with her beloved husband, Sam Prutch, who passed away June 9, 2025.
Shirley began her career as teacher before enjoying a long and distinguished career with Martin Marietta. Accomplished and respected, Shirley remained characteristically humble and quiet about all that she had achieved. They were perfect partners who genuinely enjoyed one another's company. Together they played golf, tended their garden, entertained friends, enjoyed fine food and red wine, and provided a loving home to several rescued cats.
An avid reader and devoted bridge player, Shirley remained curious throughout her life. She was brilliant and feisty, yet warm, sweet, caring, and unfailingly kind. She and Sam were extraordinarily generous, often quietly so. For all Shirley accomplished, she never needed recognition for it. Those fortunate enough to know her will remember her strength, her resilience, her kindness, and perhaps most of all the twinkle in her beautiful blue eyes. Shirley’s family marveled at her brilliance and was proud of her accomplishments. They always enjoyed hearing about her interesting travel experiences from Turkey to China and beyond. Most of all, her warm smile and kind manner will be truly missed.
A private graveside service will be held. Arrangements by Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, P.A. Online condolences may be made to www.myersdurborawfh.com.
