Sister Eileen Davis, DC, age 99, died at Villa St. Michael in Emmitsburg, Maryland on July 6, 2026. She was born on February 27, 1927, in Baltimore, Maryland to Evelyn Marie (Murk) and Elmer Frederick Davis. Before entering the Community, Sister Eileen was a member of St. Lawrence Martyr Parish in Jessup, Maryland. She graduated from Seton High School in Baltimore in 1944 and entered the Daughters of Charity on December 5, 1944. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing in 1952 from The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. In 1961, Sister Eileen graduated from Siena College in Albany, New York with a Master of Science in Education and a minor in Counseling.
Following initial formation, Sister Eileen was missioned to teach at St. John’s School in Albany. After completing her nursing studies, she served in nursing as Supervisor in the Operating Room, Counselor, Instructor, and Director of Nursing in various missions: Providence Hospital in Washington, D. C.; St. Mary’s Hospital in Troy, New York; Sisters of Charity Hospital in Buffalo, New York; Villa Saint Louise in Timonium, Maryland; St. Joseph College in Emmitsburg; St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Bridgeport, Connecticut; and St. Agnes Hospital in Baltimore. After a time of preparation, Sister Eileen served in initial formation as Seminary Directress in Emmitsburg from 1977 until 1983, a ministry she especially cherished. Sister Eileen was then missioned to St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Jacksonville, Florida to serve in Pastoral Care. Sister served in Mission Services at DePaul Hospital in Norfolk, Virginia and then as Vice President of Mission Services at St. Agnes Hospital in Baltimore. In 1996, Sister Eileen returned to St. Vincent’s in Jacksonville as Chaplain in Home Health. For the next 17 years, Sister served in Pastoral Care at St. Elizabeth Rehabilitation Nursing Center in Baltimore. In 2016, Sister Eileen was missioned to Villa St. Michael in Emmitsburg for the Ministry of Prayer, a ministry she held until her death.
Sister Eileen was preceded in death by her parents, and brothers, infant David and Eugene “Gene” Davis. She is survived by her brothers, Elmer “Dave” Davis and Raymond Davis and his wife Denise, sister-in-law Rose Ann Davis, wife of Gene, nieces, nephews, friends and her Sisters in Community.
A Wake Service will be held on Thursday, July 9 at 4:00 pm in the Villa Chapel in Emmitsburg. The Mass of Chrisitan Burial will be at 11:00 am on Friday, July 10 also in the Villa Chapel. Burial will follow in the Sacred Heart Cemetery on the grounds.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Sister Eileen’s name to Daughters of Charity, 4330 Olive Street, Saint Louis, Missouri 63108.
