Sister Patricia Anne (Sister Pat) Bossle, DC, age 86, died at Villa St. Michael in Emmitsburg, Maryland on July 1, 2026. She was born on January 8, 1940, in Baltimore, Maryland to Mary Helena (Bullock) and Joseph Aloysius Bossle, Sr. She graduated from Seton High School in Baltimore in 1957. Sister Patricia Anne entered the Daughters of Charity on April 2, 1958, in Emmitsburg from Blessed Sacrament Parish in Baltimore. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics with a minor in Science from St. Joseph College in Emmitsburg in 1971 and her Master of Science in Institutional Administration from University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana in 1976.
Following initial formation, Sister Patricia Anne was missioned to teach elementary school at St. James School in Johnson City, New York and then to Mother Seton School in Emmitsburg. She then served as Principal at St. Mary’s School in Rome, Georgia, St. Joseph School in Petersburg, Virginia and at Mother Seton School in Emmitsburg. She continued at Mother Seton School as Director of Development while also serving as Administrator of Seton Center in Emmitsburg. In 1988, Sister Patricia Anne was appointed Treasurer of the Emmitsburg Province and served in this role until 1995. As a Financial Analyst, she served both at DePaul Medical Center in Norfolk, Virginia and Western Maryland Health System in Cumberland, Maryland. For the next 10 years, Sister Patricia Anne was on mission at St. Agnes House in Baltimore and served at Marian House, My Brother’s Keeper Soup Kitchen, and Seton Keough High School. Sister then returned to Emmitsburg and was assigned to Special Projects of the Province. In addition to other projects, Sister researched and wrote a History of the Eastern Province of the Daughters of Charity 1809-1910, a work she completed in 2025. Sister Patricia Anne was missioned to Villa St. Michael for the Ministry of Prayer in 2019, a ministry she held until her death. Despite many health challenges over many years, Sister Patricia Anne was a joyful presence to all those she encountered.
Sister Patricia Anne was preceded in death by her parents; infant sister Mary Joseph; brothers Joseph Aloysius Bossle, Jr. and Martin E. Bossle. She is survived by her brothers, Edmund “Ed” (Yvonne) Bossle, Francis “Frank” (Diane) Bossle, Robert “Don” (Carolyn) Bossle, sister-in-law, Elizabeth (Beth) Bossle, wife of Martin, many nieces and nephews, friends and her Sisters in Community.
A Wake service will be held on Monday, July 6, 2026, at 4:00 pm in the Villa Chapel in Emmitsburg. The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 am on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, in the Basilica of the National Shrine of Saint Elizabeth Seton with viewing one hour before. Burial will follow in the Sacred Heart Cemetery on the grounds. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Sister Patricia Anne’s name to Seton Center, 226 East Lincoln Avenue, Emmitsburg, Maryland, 21727 or to the Daughters of Charity, 4330 Olive Street, Saint Louis, Missouri, 63108.
