Mrs. Sophia A. Lind of Emmitsburg, died on October 1, 2021 at home. Born December 3, 1922 in Emmitsburg, she was the daughter of the late George and Sophia (Wetzel) Lingg. She was the wife of the late Daniel W. Lind Jr., who predeceased her in 2003.
Sophia was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was devoted to her family and her faith. She was honored for her dedication to the Church with the Archdioceses of Baltimore Medal of Honor for her many years of tireless service. She delighted in preparing family meals and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Known for her generosity and kindness, she will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved her.
She was lovingly attended to by her daughter Susan Ritz, grand-daughter Elizabeth McBride and sons Michael and Ronald Lind throughout her declining years.
Sophia was the last surviving member of her immediate family and was predeceased by brothers Albert, Michael and Russell Lingg and sisters Mary Sanders, Emma Rebert, Alma Hobbs and Agnes Bohn.
She is survived by three sons Daniel W. Lind III of Chambersburg, PA, Michael R. Lind and Ronald J. Lind both of Emmitsburg and daughter Susan V. Ritz of Emmitsburg. In addition, she is survived by ten grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.
Family and friends may call from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Thursday, October 7, 2021 with the Rosary being recited at 7:00 pm at the Myers–Durboraw Funeral Home, 210 W. Main St. Emmitsburg, MD.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Friday, October 8, 2021 at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, 47 DePaul St., Emmitsburg, MD, with the Rev. Harry Arnone, C.M. as celebrant.
Interment will be at St. Anthony’s Shrine Cemetery in Emmitsburg (adjacent to the Grotto of Lourdes Shrine) immediately following the Mass.
