Stanley M. Vinson

December 22, 1943 — May 2, 2020

Emmitsburg

Stanley M. Vinson, 76, of Emmitsburg, Maryland, died on Saturday, May 2, 2020 at his home.

Born December 22, 1943 in Nashville, Tennessee, he was the son of the late Clyde B. and Sue A. (Morris) Vinson.  He was the loving and devoted husband of 54 years to Joyce A. (Flickinger) Vinson.

Stanley worked for Gettysburg Shoe Company until its closing in 1976, and then retired from Flo Serve in Taneytown in 2002.  He moved with his parents to Emmitsburg in 1961 from Nashville, TN, and developed many friendships along the way having never met a stranger.  He met Joyce and married in 1966.  Stan loved farming, watching his children and grandchildren, and coaching little league baseball for 15 years.  His true enjoyment was family gatherings, watching TV, getting outdoors when he could and most of all talking with his friends on the phone.  We will miss hearing his “Yellow” as hello.  Stanley was an extremely devoted husband, father and friend.  He loved his family more than life itself.  Anyone that met him knew that he was a trusted, kind hearted and faithful friend.  He will be missed daily by all who knew and loved him.  He would want you to remember his smile and kind words of advice.  He is home now.  Until we meet again, fly high Stan.  You are now home with our Father in Heaven.

Surviving in addition to his wife Joyce, are daughter, Sheila Warthen and husband Steve of Fairfield, PA; sons, Dave Vinson and wife Derhonda of Duncansville, PA, and Steve Vinson and wife Alana of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; grandchildren, Elijah, Rachel, Andrew, Cambria, Sydelle, and Mazzeryn; sister, Vernilla C. Bennett and husband Ronald of Emmitsburg.

At Stan’s request there will be no services.  Arrangements have been entrusted to MYERS-DURBORAW FUNERAL HOME in Emmitsburg.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to either the Vigilant Hose Company, P.O. Box 171, 25 W. Main St., Emmitsburg, MD  21727 or the Taneytown Volunteer Fire Company, 39 E. Baltimore St., Taneytown, MD  21787.

Don’t grieve for me, for now I’m free, I’m following the path God laid for me.  I took His hand when I heard Him call; I turned my back and left it all.  I could not stay anther day, to laugh, to love, to work, or play.  Tasks left undone must stay that way.  I found peace at the close of day.  If my parting has left a void, then fill it with remembered joy; a friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss – ah yes, these things I too will miss.  Be not burdened with times of sorrow, I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow.  My Life’s been full; I’ve savored much.  Good friends, good times, a loved one’s touch.  Perhaps my time seemed all too brief.  Don’t lengthen it now with undue grief.  Lift up your heart and share with me; God wanted me now, He set me free.
