On January 31, 2026, Sterling Grant Smith, Sr. passed away peacefully in Frederick, MD. Born on February 13, 1935 in Tyrone, MD, he was the son of the late Charlie Dennis and Mabel Savannah Smith nee Baker. He is predeceased by his beloved wife Ina Roberta Smith nee Duble who passed away in 1996.
Sterling was a very talented self-employed home builder and remodeler for many years. When he finished that part of his career, he then became a security guard and worked at Black and Decker and United Healthcare. He loved to be outside and thoroughly enjoyed bowling, fishing, hunting, and gardening. He also had a love for baseball and enjoyed watching the game. He was a long-standing member of Keysville United Church of Christ in Keysville.
Sterling is survived by his children Sterling G. Smith, Jr. and Deborah Smith; his step-grandson Brandon Abel, his grandchildren Khalie Smith, Jeremiah Carlen, and Miranda Carlen; his sister Bertha Williams.
In addition to his wife and parents, he is also predeceased by his siblings Minnie S. Duble, Emma Reddick, Charles Herman Smith, and James Preston Smith.
The family will receive friends for visitation at the MYERS-DURBORAW FUNERAL HOME, P.A. 136 E. Baltimore Street (21787) from 2-4pm and 6-8pm on Friday February 6, 2026 and on Saturday February 7, 2026 from 10-11am. A Funeral Service will begin at 11am with Reverend Guy Johnson officiating. Interment will be at Keysville Union Cemetery. The gentlemen selected to be our pallbearers are Brandon Abel, Dan Reddick, Dale Brauning, Jeremiah Carlen, Michael “Mikie” Duble, and Matthew Duble-Dice. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association and/or your choice of a local hospice.
