Steven Giles Hildenbrand

Steven G. Hildenbrand died on December 18, 2025, at the age of 80, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Towson, MD. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Lillian (Keller) Hildenbrand. Steve is survived by his wife of 52 years, Pamela (Root) Hildenbrand, as well as his daughter and son-in-law, Gail and Chris Kulp of Montoursville, PA, and his daughter, Melissa Rhoton, and granddaughter, Lilly Rhoton, both of Manchester, MD. Also surviving is brother, James (Linda) Hildenbrand of Williamsport and their 2 daughters and 4 grandchildren.

Steve retired from the State of Maryland in 2012, after 32 years as an Assistant State’s Attorney overseeing the Department of Veterans Affairs as well as taking on Public Safety & Correctional cases. His office was in Reisterstown, although cases took him from Western Maryland to the Eastern Shore. Prior to this work, he was an attorney in private practice following his graduation from the University of Maryland at Baltimore School of Law in 1971.

Best known for his love of the Carolina Tar Heels, Steve watched as many football and basketball games on TV as time permitted and, in earlier years, he traveled to alumni events, often with the whole family. Steve graduated from UNC in 1967 where he was an All-American Swimmer. He later spent decades coaching swimming in the Westminster area and officiating swimming and diving meets throughout Maryland. Steve even developed a special way to cheer on his daughters, while they were swimming as children, while he was serving as a meet official.

Steve and Pam were both longtime members of Deer Park United Methodist Church and have lived in Carroll Lutheran Village in Westminster since 2021.

A memorial service for Steve will be held at Deer Park United Methodist Church (2205 Sykesville Rd. in Westminster) on December 29, 2025, at 2:00 pm, with a gathering to follow in the church social hall.
